In addition to formulating the principles and starting points of the WMT, the working group is also involved in practical activities by dismantling technical equipment.
The principles and starting points are stated in the downloadable documents below:
Documents
- Characteristics of Humane Technology [download ENG v9] [Download NL v11]:
This document contains criteria and values that determine which technical products can be considered worthy of human beings.
- Code of Ethics [download ENG] [download NL]:
This code of ethics is aimed at managers, designers and manufacturers who are involved in the project management, the design and the production of “humane” technological products. The code will appeal to the awareness and moral responsibility of these persons in the process of creating humane products.
- General design rules [download ENG] [download NL]
It is noted that these documents can be updated if necessary. They can be viewed in terms of content under the links.
Dismantling
One of the activities of the MWT working group is the dismantling of technical devices.
Kettle disassembly: the bi-metal
On February 25, 2023, the working group dismantled a kettle. It was remarkable that a simple piece of technology such as a bi-metal forms the heart of this kettle.
A bi-metal consists of two metal strips that are placed on top of each other. These two metals have different coefficients of expansion, which means that the bi-metal will bend when the temperature changes: one part expands more strongly than the other.
Video 1: The bi-metal has come into a bent position due to the heat of the burning candle. After a few seconds, the bi-metal cools down and snaps into the normal (straight) position.
